taking care of myself
Many parents find it hard to take care of themselves after their adolescent has been hospitalized for suicidal behavior. It is normal to feel worried, anxious, frustrated, sad and depressed during this stressful time. To take care of yourself, it is important to make sure you get enough sleep; eat a healthy, well-balanced diet; get some exercise (even if only a 10-minute walk); connect with friends and family or make new friends when possible; and find time for activities that you find fun or entertaining. It also can be helpful to take short times away (even if just for an hour or two) from your caregiving responsibilities for your teen if you have someone to help.
